Love Dont Cost A Thing... UHH.. Yeah Right

Cupid has put down his arrows and is getting to rest today. The Valentines weekend is over but some couples are still feeling the squeeze of our winged friend. Love can be a wondrous thing but it can also be every expensive. A dozen roses can top over $60 and nice dinners much much more. So were Auburn students spending on their loved ones or were saving and giving more thought and less gift? How did local business fare with the recession?
Reporter Lindsay ONeal braved the chocolates and rose petals to find out.

Snow Day in Auburn, Alabama

Several inches of snow fell in Auburn on Friday. Classes at Auburn University were canceled for the day and students took the time off to enjoy the snow with their friends. Samford Lawn was packed all day with students enjoying the rare white powder. Students made snowmen, sleighed down hills, but by far the favorite activity of the day was Snowball Fights! Eagle Eye News was there to capture all the excitement.

Cutest Round-Up on the Plains!

Storybook Farm is a non for profit horse therapy farm located in Opelika. The farm helps over 600 children a year with disabilities that range from paralysis to down syndrome. The services are life-changing but they are anything but inexpensive. In order to cover costs and continue to serve their community by having the Cowboy Round-up fundraiser. Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. Declares Saturday, February 6 "The Big Event Day"

Auburn, Ala. - Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. has declared Saturday, February 6, 2010 "THE BIG EVENT Day" in the City of Auburn in recognition of the Auburn University Student Government Association's (SGA) one-day, student-run service project. Student volunteers will be participating in a number of community service projects during the event, including a downtown clean-up, litter pick-up, storm drain marking project, and data entry for the City's veterans brick mapping project.

Groundbreaking for New Auburn MRI Research Center

Auburn University held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for the new MRI Research Center. University President Jay Gogue and Alabama Governor Bob Riley were in attendance. The facility is estimated to cost about 21 million dollars and will be one of the first 7 Telsa MRI machines in the nation. The center will bring prestige to Auburn, but will also help save lives.

The New Facility is expected to be completed in September. Watch Eagle Eye News Monday Night for a full report.

Budget Brides

Could Bridezillas be a thing of the past? Well, we wouldn't go that far, but the recessionary times are causing some brides reign in the wedding day spending. This means that couples and bridal businesses are having to make concessions on the glitz and the glam without dashing the dreams of wedding day bliss. Lindsay ONeal attended the OA News Southern Bride Expo to find out how the business and the couples are coping with big dreams and small wallets.

Sigma Hold 'Em- Poker Tournament Benefit

Sigma Kappa sorority is hosting its 6th annual no limits Texas style poker tournament supporting Alzheimer's Association on February 8th and 9th. The two day event will consist of three seperate rounds with a following championship round at the end. The first round wil be held on Febuary 8th at 6:30pm with another round at 9:00pm. The last buy-in round will be February 9th at 6:30pm and all the winners from these three preliminary rounds will advance to the final championship round on February 9th at 9:00pm. Prizes will be awarded to winners and include a weekend beach trip for two, a lake trip, and many more. Buy-in is $20 dollars and includes a free t-shirt. There will also be a seperate ladies tournament on February 9th at 6:30pm and buy-in is $10 and includes a free t-shirt.
