Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. Declares Saturday, February 6 "The Big Event Day"

Portion of College Street to close during the event
Auburn, Ala. - Mayor Bill Ham, Jr. has declared Saturday, February 6, 2010 "THE BIG EVENT Day" in the City of Auburn in recognition of the Auburn University Student Government Association's (SGA) one-day, student-run service project. Student volunteers will be participating in a number of community service projects during the event, including a downtown clean-up, litter pick-up, storm drain marking project, and data entry for the City's veterans brick mapping project.
THE BIG EVENT began in 2003 as a way for Auburn University students to give back to the communities of Auburn, Opelika, and Lee County. Each year, hundreds of student volunteers team up to lend a helping hand to a variety of causes, including local churches, non-profits, and individuals. Projects range from yard work and minor home repairs to painting and construction.
Street Closing
To ensure the safety of student volunteers during the event, the City of Auburn will close the portion of College Street between Magnolia Avenue and Thach Avenue. Motorists should seek alternate routes on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
