Auburn Baseball Claims SEC West Title

After defeating the #17 Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, the Auburn Tigers baseball team has laid claim to the SEC Western Division Championship. The win comes as a sigh of relief for the Tigers as their 18-4 drubbing of the Rebels guarantees them the SEC West Title with just one game remaining in the regular season. This is the first division title for the Tigers since 1995. The win comes a week after Auburn officially earned a spot in the SEC Tournament, a place they haven't been since 2003.

Auburn leads the SEC in both batting average(.354) and home runs(113) this season. They tacked on five more dingers in their division title-clinching game, moving their overall record to 38-17 and their conference record to 19-10.

The victory in their second-to-last game of the season was accomplished mainly because of the seven-run 3rd inning the Tigers put up. That coupled with a pair of four-RBI performances by left fielder Brian Fletcher and catcher Ryan Jenkins helped Auburn earn a #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Fletcher and Jenkins combined for three of the five homers for Auburn in this game.

The first game of the SEC Tournament for the Tigers will be Wednesday, May 26 at 9:30 a.m. CT
