Friarson's Double OT Goal Gives Auburn Upset Win Over #5 Florida State

While the talk of the town all week is football, the talk of Auburn tonight is women's soccer. Coming into the game as the underdogs, the Tigers proved they can hang with the best in the nation as they toppled the #5 Florida State Seminoles in Double-Overtime, 3-2 thanks to star Katy Friarson's goal in the 107th minute.
Things didn't look promising in the early going for Auburn, as the heavily favored Seminoles kept the Tigers at bay, and got a goal in the 27th minute from Sophomore Ines Juarena. The Tigers played tough all game and fended off multiple shots on goal until the 77th minute when they were able to tie the game on a goal from Junior Forward Lydia Townsend.
With the game tied heading into the 80th minute, all signs were pointing toward overtime as both teams played solid defense throughout. Then Florida State appeared to crush the hopes of the hometown Tigers, as Senior Midfielder Janice Cayman scored for the Seminoles with just seven minutes remaining in the contest.
All hope wasn't lost, however, as the Tigers showed just exactly whey they're a force to be reckoned with. Sophomore Jessica Rightmer netted a goal in the 87th minute to tie things up yet again, practically guaranteeing an overtime contest.
After playing the first 10 minutes of overtime without a goal, teams came back out for the second overtime with hopes of putting this one away without a tie. Katy Friarson, currently ranked by TopDrawerSoccer.com as the #1 player to watch, proved exactly why she got the ranking as she scored a clutch goal in the 107th minute to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory.
Players jumped for joy and piled on the Junior Midfielder in celebration of what is considered by some to be the biggest victory in Auburn women's soccer history. With plenty of games left in the season, be on the lookout for the Tigers to bring a lot more excitement to the fans.
