Domestic Violence Awareness in Auburn

The month of October pays tribute to those victim to Domestic Violence. TheAuburn University Womens Health Clinic sponsored a conference at The Hotel and Conference Center at Auburn University to inform students about the dangers of domestic violence. National Speaker, victim and survivor of Domestic Violence, Carolyn Cox, shares her "silent secret" to students explaining, "abuse can happen to anyone. It does not discriminate."

The Auburn community observes Domestic Violence awareness throughout the month of October. With the efforts of Auburn University's outreach programs such as Safe Harbor and the Women's resource center, students are able to gain awareness about the dark reality of domestic violence.
Carolyn Cox, an advocate, speaker and victim of domestic violence shared her "silent secret" with Auburn students. Cox describes her 40 year marriage with regret; wishing she had the strength to overcome the control her husband held over her. The domestic violence victim emphasizes the understanding of "it could happen to you."
Cox said, "I thought I could overcome the bruises and cover up my black eyes. Marriage and life is an investment. My investment was my family...and that mentality is what paved the way to what nearly ended my life 40 years later."
In the state of Alabama alone, 32 people have fell victim to domestic violence this year. Auburn University is urging students who are experiencing domestic violence within their relationship to visit the Women's Resource Center located in 311 Mary Martin Hall on Auburn's campus, or contact:
