H1N1 Influenza Hits the Plains

The Auburn University Department of Health and Safety is planning for the possibility of increased cases of the illness during the 2009-2010 academic year. The Auburn University Medical Clinic has seen nearly 15 to 20 cases per day of H1N1 flu and 60 to 90 cases per day of other respiratory illness.
As the H1n1 Influenza continues to take a toll on students and faculty of Auburn University, class sizes keep getting smaller, and Auburn students and staff remain concerned for their health and the effect absences will have on this semester's curriculum.
Teachers have sent out contingency plans to students stating: if class absences continue, alternative teaching plans may go into effect such as on-line lectures and student-submitted quizzes.
The Muslim Students' Association Welcomes AU Community to Participate in Annual "Ramadan Fast-A-Thon."

The Muslim Students' Association (MSA) held their annual "Ramadan Fast-A-Thon" event Thursday night, September 10 in the AU Student Center. The event welcomed members throughout the Auburn community of any denomination to participate in the Ramadan experience for a day.
Those interested to become part of Ramadan Fast-A-Thon signed forms pledging to abstatin from food, drinks and negative thoughts for an entire day. For every member who participated in the event, businesses in the Auburn area agreed to donate money to the East Alabama Food Bank.
After a day of fasting, the Muslim Students' Association invited the community to join together and break fast at the Ramadan Fast-A-Thon banquet.
Olympic Gold Medalist and Auburn Alumna Kirsty Coventry Speaks at Philanthropy Luncheon

The Women’s Philanthropy Board's 2009 Fall Luncheon was a gold medal event, where Olympic Gold medalist and Auburn University alumna, Kirsty Coventry, was the keynote speaker.
More than 300 special guests, Philanthropy Board members and students were in attendance at the luncheon Friday, September 11, at the Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center Ballroom.
Auburn University’s Women Philanthropy Board is an organization of the College of Human Sciences that is led by an executive committee of women leaders in business and public service, who are committed to inspiring, educating, and enabling women, according to the Women’s Philanthropy Board (WPB) web site at www.humsci.auburn.edu/wpb.
Fire Breaks out on Campus
A car fire broke out in front of the Lowder Business Building today around 11:30a. Eagle Eye got exclusive video of the fire being put out. Auburn Fire Department Officials tell us they were lucky to keep the fire from spreading. Click the image to watch the video.

Toomer's Ten Bus Service
Auburn University now offers students a free nightline bus service from the bars downtown to most off campus locations. The buses will be transporting students from the library, residence halls, Toomer's corner, dining facilities, off campus residences, and everywhere in between during these hours. These buses will be leaving the Toomer's corner stop (main hub) every 30 mins. beginning with the first run at 10:00 PM and ending with the last run leaving Toomer's at 2:30 AM.

U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy Dies
The 77-year-old senator from Massachusetts loses his year-long battle with a brain tumor late Tuesday night, August 25, 2009. His family says he died at home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
